Keene, N.H. – August 30, 2024 – The Springfield College field hockey dropped its 2024 season opener on the road to Keene State College, 3-0, this afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex.
The host Owls begin the season 1-0, while the Pride drop to 0-1.
After a scoreless first, Molly Murray gave Keene State a 1-0 edge midway through the second off a feed from Alessandra Vidal.
Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) had Springfield's best chance of the stanza, but it was turned away by Clara Gorman in cage.
Keene State added solo goals in the third and the fourth to pull away for the 3-0 final. Murray set up the Owls second goal, while Grace Bazin and Grace Seabury accounted for the markers for Keene State after the halftime break.
The Owls held a slim 14-11 edge in shots, but Springfield, which took five penalty corners in the fourth alone, held an 8-3 margin in the category.
Springfield will continue its road swing with a trip to nationally-ranked No. 14 Amherst College on Wednesday night at 6:30 pm.
