Milton, Mass. – September 10, 2024 – The Springfield College men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2024 campaign tonight as the Pride topped Curry College, 3-0, in a non-conference matchup at Walter M. Katz Field.
Springfield improved to 1-2-1 overall, while Curry dropped to 4-2-0.
First-year
Morgan Thibodeau (Carrabassett Valley, Maine) registered his first collegiate goal for the Pride tonight as he finished passes from
Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) and
Connor Policarpio (Bristol, Conn.) in the 14th minute. Thibodeau is the fifth different goal scorer for Springfield this fall.
After an own goal gave the Pride a 2-0 advantage early in the second stanza, Policarpio notched his second tally of the year and third point of the evening as he cut through the Curry back line and buried his shot into the left side of the net for Springfield's third goal of the match in the 80th minute.
As a team, Springfield out-shot Curry by a 15-6 margin and held a slight 2-1 edge in corner kicks. In net, Springfield first-year
Tommy Fenton (East Hampton, Conn.) earned the first win of his collegiate career despite not having to make a save in the 90-minute shutout.
The clean sheet for Springfield was its first of the 2024 season after having eight a year ago – the last coming against No. 8 nationally-ranked Babson College on October 18, 2023.
Springfield will return home for a tilt with Skidmore College on Saturday, September 14 at 3:30 pm as part of a doubleheader with the Springfield women's soccer program, who will take on Rhode Island College at 1:00 pm, on Brock-Affleck Field.
