Springfield, Mass. – September 14, 2024 – The Springfield College men's soccer team was blanked by Skidmore College, 3-0, in a non-conference tilt on Brock-Affleck Field this afternoon.
Skidmore earned its first win of the 2024 campaign and is now 1-1-2 overall, while Springfield dropped to 1-3-1.
The visitors scored all three of their goals in a span of just eight minutes in the first half which was more than enough to hold off Springfield. An unassisted free kick strike by Colin Goodhines in the 28th minute accounted for Skidmore's first goal before strikes by both Connor Mansfield and Tobias Catizone pushed the Thoroughbreds up three.
Springfield produced nine shot opportunities in the second stanza after having just one over the first 45 minutes of play today. With under five remaining in the contest,
Erving Henderson (Great Barrington, Mass.) forced the Skidmore keeper to make a save and then just a minute
later Parker Thornton's (Malden, Mass.) shot ricocheted off the crossbar.
In total, Skidmore held an 18-10 margin in shots and a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Springfield will travel to Wesleyan University (Conn.) for a non-conference match on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 pm.
