Springfield, Mass. – September 18, 2024 – Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Springfield College field hockey team fell to Trinity (Conn.), 3-1, on Wednesday evening on Stagg Field.
Both teams evened their records to .500 as Springfield moved to 3-3 and Trinity pushed to 2-2.
It was a tale of two halves tonight as Springfield held possession for the majority of the first stanza as the Pride out shot the Bantams, 6-3, and held a 1-0 edge into the halftime break. Trinity, however, posted a 9-1 differential in shots in the second and scored three to account for the final score.
Springfield struck first for the game's initial goal 6:30 into the second quarter when
Molly Collins (Franklin, Mass.) ripped a shot from the top of the arc off a short pass from
Audrey Dolan (Westminster, Mass.). The goal was set up by
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) who inserted the ball of off Springfield's second penalty corner of the half.
The Bantams found the equalizer just 1:37 into the third quarter when Izzy Deveney buried a penalty stroke into the corner of the net. With the score knotted at one in the fourth, Nina Falkson gave the visitors their first lead of the game as she finished a pass from Aly Janssen with under eight minutes to play.
Then, with less than three minutes remaining, Harper Siemens tapped the ball from the right side and past the Springfield back line for an insurance goal and the 3-1 win for Trinity.
Springfield went on to hold a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners on the night which included a 3-0 differential in the first half.
Springfield will open NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 21 at 1:00 pm against Salve Regina University at noon on Stagg Field.
