Springfield, Mass. - September 25, 2024 - The Springfield College field hockey team was upended by Western New England, 3-0, in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
Springfield dropped its third-straight outing to have its record fall to 3-5 on the year while the Golden Bears evened their record to 4-4. WNE owned a 21-6 advantage in shots on the day, and took 14 of the game's 19 penalty corners. For the Pride,
Neilee Hess (Franklin, Mass.) was credited with eight saves, whileÂ
Claire Munkacsi (Gorham, Maine) and
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) each had a defensive save.
WNE jumped on the scoreboard in the 10th minute on an unassisted strike by Mackenna Cooke and doubled its lead right before halftime as Sarah Johnston got free for a blast with 90 seconds remaining in the second.
Just over three minutes into the second half, Johnston ripped a centering pass which Olyvia Whyte was able redirect into the back of the cage for the game's final goal.Â
The Pride will turn its attention to taking on nationally-ranked MIT on Saturday at 1 pm.Â
