Cambridge, Mass. - September 28, 2024 - The Springfield College field hockey team fell to No. 15 nationally-ranked MIT, 4-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Jack Barry Field on Saturday afternoon.
MIT improved to 5-3 overall and to 2-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dipped to 3-6, 0-2.
As a team, the Engineers held a decisive 19-3 advantage in shots and an 11-3 differential in penalty corners.
MIT opened the scoring with 3:31 left to play in the first as Ashley Lederman finished a pass from Alice Zehner for the early edge and then less than five minutes into the second Bailey McIntyre doubled the hosts lead with an unassisted strike. The Engineers held the Pride to just one shot in the first half - a blocked attempt by Kate O'Connor (Hampden, Mass.).
The Engineers pulled away with two additional goals in the third quarter - one off a penalty corner by Eva Oppenheim and one unassisted by Audrey Oh to account for the 4-0 final.
In the effort, Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) made eight stops for Springfield - the second most she has made this season.
Springfield will head to Connecticut College on Wednesday, October 2 for a non-conference tilt beginning at 7:00 pm.
