Danbury, Conn. - September 7, 2024 - The Springfield College field hockey team earned its first victory of the 2024 season as it outlasted WestConn, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. 

With the victory, Springfield moved to 1-2 on the year while the Wolves evened their record to 2-2.

Springfield was dominant throughout the afternoon, owning a 33-4 advantage in shots, including a 22-2 edge in the second half, while also taking all 21 of the game's penalty corners. After a scoreless first half, Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) broke through for the game's only goal in the 44th minute as she connected on a feed from Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.).  It was an impressive third quarter for the visiting Pride, which ripped 15 shots in the stanza. Between the pipes, Neilee Hess (Franklin, Mass.) needed to make just three saves on the day to earn the shutout victory.  

The Pride will host Eastern Connecticut at 6 pm on Tuesday in their home opener.
