Springfield, Mass. – January 25, 2025 – The Springfield College women's track and field team came in first place at the 2025 Massasoit Classic held inside the Springfield Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield produced 243.5 points for first, which landed the Pride ahead of Wellesley (119), Westfield State (100.5), UMass Boston (82), Castleton (62), Union (28) and Hampshire (8).
Springfield had a strong showing in the field events winning three different events. The Pride finished 1-2-3 in the pole vault highlighted by a first place finish by
Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) as she cleared 3.25-meters (10 feet, 8 inches). Scott was followed by
Autumn Bacik (Watertown, Conn.) and
Ella Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), who both cleared 3.10-meters (10 feet, 2 inches). Bacik paced Springfield in both the high jump (1.46-meters – 4 feet, 9.5 inches) and the long jump (4.86-meters – 15 feet, 11.25 inches).
Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) finished first in the triple jump with a best mark of 11.34-meters (37 feet, 2.50 inches), while
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) took first in the weight throw (14.06-meters – 46 feet, 2 inches) and second in the shot put (12.13-meters – 39 feet. 9.5 inches).
On the track,
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) produced a first place finish in the 5,000-meter run in 19:02.41,
Taylor Gibson (Billerica, Mass.) won the 600-meter run in 1:44.50 and
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.) took first in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.48.
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) earned a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.08-seconds and also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 28.141-seconds, while
Kaitlyn Doherty (Wilmington, Mass.) finished fourth in the 60-meter dash in 8.24-seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash in 28.149-seconds.
Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.) earned a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run in 2:24.85,
Leah Castle (Ashford, Conn.) placed second in the 600-meter run in 1:45.49 and
Kami Wlodyka (Three Rivers, Mass.) took second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:12.00.
Maeve D'Arcy (West Hartford, Conn.),
Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.), Gibson and Brillo teamed up for a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:23.45.
In the pentathlon,
Jillian Barry (South Royalton, Vt.) rounded out the highlights of the meet with a second place finish with a score of 1683 points. She individually won the shot put with a best toss of 7.66-meters.
Springfield will travel next weekend to Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Classic and to Wheaton for the Wheaton Invitational.
