No. 7 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Elms

Chicopee, Mass. – January 28, 2025 – The No. 7 ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team won its third straight match as the Pride swept Elms College on the road by scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.

Springfield, which was ranked No. 7 in this American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III national poll and No. 7 by FrogJump Volleyball is now 3-1 on the season, while Elms fell to 2-3.
 
As a team Springfield hit .434 as was led by Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.), who registered eight kills on nine errorless swings (.889), while James Browning (Santa Monica, Calif.) registered five kills (.883) and Joel DeCamp (Simi Valley, Calif.) added four kills (1.000). Joey Priesche (Penfield, N.Y.) led Springfield with five aces, Noah Schuessler (Wentzvillle, Mo.) posted a team-best four digs and Dyllan Nguyen (Fountain Valley, Calif.) dished out 29 assists. John Bellafronte paced Elms with six kills ten swings.
 
Springfield posted ten kills on a .562 hitting percentage in the opening set that saw the score tied five times and change possession on three occasions. Up 20-17 late in the set, Springfield ripped off four straight points on swing by Levinson, Priesche and Richard Eber Jr. (Hummelstown, Pa.) and an error by Elms for set point. It was a service error by Bellafronte that secured set one for Springfield, 25-19.
 
Levinson registered five of Springfield's eight kills in the middle set, while Priesche posted four of his aces in set two that once again featured five tied scores and three lead changes. Elms took an early 4-2 edge, but a 9-3 run for the Pride gave the lead back to Springfield, 11-7. Over the stretch Levinson swung for three kills including the one that terminated the spurt off a feed from Nguyen. Late in the stanza up by four, Springfield once again produced a long run – this time 7-1 – the saw three straight aces from Priesche. Two service errors by the Blazers secured set two, 25-15.
 
Browning hit .833 with five kills in set three which saw Springfield produce its largest number of kills in the match with 14. Back-to-back swings by Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) ignited an early 5-0 spurt for the Pride before both teams traded points until late in the set. A swing by Browning gave Springfield match point before another service error for Elms secured the set, 25-19, and the sweep for Springfield.

Springfield will travel to Rivier University for a tri-match with the host Raiders and SUNY Potsdam on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm.
