Final D3football.com Poll | Final AFCA Division III Football Poll
Springfield, Mass. – January 7, 2025 – After a historic 2024 campaign, the Springfield College football team finished ranked fifth in the D3football.com National Poll and ranked sixth in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III National Poll.
This marks Springfield's highest ranking in either poll since 2004 when the Pride sat fourth for several weeks in the AFCA poll and ranked fourth in the D3football.com poll in week one. Springfield is also just one of two teams from New England to ever be ranked in the top-10 of either poll.
Springfield finished the 2024 season with a 12-1 record setting single season program records for wins (12) and became just the second team from New England to ever reach the national quarterfinals, matching the feat that Springfield also did in 2000. Springfield concluded the year with 5,557 rushing yards, the most in the history of Division III and a new program record, while the Pride's 583 points scored and 808 rushing attempts were the most ever in the 134-year history of the program.
Â
Springfield won its fourth consecutive NEWMAC Championship title after defeating Maritime, 55-20, in November stretching its conference winning streak to 26 straight games, the fourth longest streak in Division III football. The Pride then went on to defeat UMass-Dartmouth, 54-27, in the NCAA Division III Championship Second Round and second-ranked Cortland, the defending national champions at the time, 40-28, in the third round.Â
Springfield was guided by Associated Press Division III Football National Coach of the Year,Â
Mike Cerasuolo and All-Americans,Â
Arsen Shtefan (West Hartford, Conn.),Â
Billy Carr (Southington, Conn.)Â andÂ
Craig Connell (Goshen, N.Y.). The Pride also set the single season program record for most D3football.com All-Americans with three and the most D3football.com All-Region selections with seven and also tied the single season program record for most major awards from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Shtefan was named NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Year, Carr was named NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Year,Â
Joe Maurer (Wilbraham, Mass.)Â was named NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Year andÂ
Aaziah Scott (Savannah, Ga.)Â was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.
