Springfield, Mass. - October 1, 2025 - The Springfield College field hockey was powered by hat tricks from Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) and Rachel Simkewicz (Westminster, Mass.) in an 8-0 non-conference win against Hartford on Wednesday evening. This is Gaydos' second career hat-trick and first multiple goal game of the season while this is the first hat trick for Simkewicz and fourth multiple goal game of the year.
The Pride improved to 6-4 overall while the Hawks dropped to 2-6. Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) recorded a goal and an assist while Camdyn Despres (Chichester, NH) scored the first goal of her career.
The Pride scored less than a minute into the game when Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) inserted the ball on a corner to Moore who drove it into the back of the cage.
With just over a minute left in the first quarter, Morlock lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to Gaydos who tapped it in to make it 2-0. Springfield scored again just thirty seconds later when Gaydos sent the ball to Simkewicz who shot it past a diving goalkeeper for a 3-0 lead after one.
After a quiet second quarter, Springfield exploded for four goals in the third. Three minutes in, Amber Wolkner (Farmington, Conn.) passed the ball from the 20-yard line to Simkewicz who took a shot to score and then completed her hat trick off a deflected pass from Maggie Horn (Marlborough, Mass.) just minutes later. Gaydos followed suit and posted two goals of her own in the third stanza for her first hat trick of the campaign after finishing passes from both Sarah Goldstein (Cheshire, Conn.) and Moore.
Despres scored her first career goal after receiving a pass from Bethie Boone (Holden, Mass.) to give the Pride the 8-0 win.
Springfield out shot the Hawks 20-1 and registered 16 penalty corners to Hartford's one.
The Pride will host conference opponent MIT on Saturday in a 4:00 pm matchup on Stagg Field
