Springfield, Mass. - October 4, 2025 - The Springfield College field hockey team lost to MIT, 3-2, in overtime this evening.
The Engineers improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference while the Pride drop to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference. It was a defensive battle in the contest with both goalkeepers, which includes Springfield'sÂ
Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.), recording ten saves and the first goal coming late in the third quarter.Â
Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) put the Pride on the board in the 42nd minute after putting one in the back of the cage.Â
Four minutes later, Springfield was awarded a penalty stroke which
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) took and scored to put the Pride up two.Â
With time ticking down, MIT scored twice off of corners with less than four minutes to go to force overtime.Â
Janie Thomas scored the winning goal for the Engineers five minutes into overtime to end it.Â
MIT outshot the Pride 21-13 and also had ten more penalty corners than Springfield.Â
The Pride will head to Smith on Tuesday for a 6:00 pm conference matchup.Â
