Morlock's Overtime Stroke Leads Field Hockey Over Smith, 2-1

Northampton, Mass. - October 7, 2025 - The Springfield College field hockey beat New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Smith, 2-1, in overtime. Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) sealed the win on a penalty stroke which is her fourth goal from a stroke this season. Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) had nine saves in the win.

Both Springfield and Smith are now 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

In the 20th minute of the game, Rachel Simkewicz (Westminster, Mass.) rebounded the ball from the goalie and put it in the bottom left of the cage to give Springfield the lead.

Callahan Day lifted the ball past Orcutt early in the fourth quarter to equalize and force overtime.

Just four minutes into overtime, the Pride were awarded a penalty stroke that Morlock took and scored to give Springfield the win.

Smith held a 12-9 edge on shots and led 6-3 on corners.

Springfield will host Wellesley on Saturday at 12:00 pm for another conference matchup.
