Springfield, Mass. – October 11, 2025 - The Springfield College men's soccer team earned a key NEWMAC victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Salve Regina University, 2-1, on Brock Affleck Field.
With the win, the Pride improved to 6-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play, while Salve Regina dropped to 4-3-4, 0-2-1. With still five regular season matches to go this fall, Springfield matched its win total from a year ago.
Prior to the start of the match, Springfield honored its five seniors in
Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.),
Louis Likens (Brewster, N.Y.),
Cyrus Ng (Houston, Texas),
Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) and
Ryan Berecz (Fairfield, Conn.).
Springfield first-year
Luke McPhillips (Hingham, Mass.) tallied his first collegiate goal this afternoon before
Jared Kelly (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) registered what proved to be the game winner late in the second half. Pote was outstanding in net for the Pride making a season-high eight saves in the conference victory.
McPhillips came off the bench for the Pride in the 58th minute and just 30 seconds later potted the first goal of the game. About 20 minutes later, Springfield was awarded a corner that was taken by
Connor Policarpio (Bristol, Conn.) and found the head of Kelly, who put the ball into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
Salve Regina responded just two minutes later as Chase Zorner scored to make it 2-1, but Springfield's defense held firm in the closing stages to secure the win.
The Seahawks outshot the Pride, 20-10, but Springfield held an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
Springfield will host Wesleyan University (Conn.) in non-conference action on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
