WPI Rallies Past Men's Soccer Under the Lights

Worcester, Mass. – October 18, 2025 – A trio of set piece goals by the homestanding Engineers, including two in the second half, sent WPI over Springfield College men's soccer, 3-2, in NEWMAC action on Saturday night at Alumni Field.

WPI improved to 5-3-5 and 2-1-1 in conference play, while Springfield dropped to 6-8, 2-3.

Springfield received goals from Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) and Connor Policarpio (Bristol, Conn.) in the setback as the duo continue to lead the Pride in scoring this fall. WPI used three goals from three different student-athletes to secure the win.

Parker put Springfield ahead just 1:05 into the contest as he took the ball off a feed from Aidan Hallinan (New Windsor, N.Y.), drove through the box and buried the game's first goal and his sixth of the season for the 1-0 lead. WPI answered and was awarded a free kick from about 30 yards out and Evan Haas tied the score off a header into the net.

Springfield's offense wasn't done in the first half as with less than three minutes to play the Pride was awarded a penalty kick. Policarpio registered his fifth goal of the fall putting Springfield ahead 2-1 heading into the break.

WPI used a pair of corner kicks ten minutes apart to secure the NEWMAC win. Brady Burch found the equalizer off the foot of Noah Amorim and then Fabio Bastida-Andreu kicked in what proved to be the game winner off a bouncing ball inside the box to account for the 3-2 final.

WPI outshot Springfield by a 22-8 margin, while the Pride held a 5-2 differential in corner kicks. Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) made nine saves for the Pride in the setback.

Springfield will travel to Clark University next Saturday for a NEWMAC tilt at 11:00 am in Worcester.
