No. 3 Babson Comes From Behind to Defeat Field Hockey

Springfield, Mass. – October 21, 2025 – The Springfield College field hockey team fell to No. 3 nationally-ranked Babson College, 2-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday night on Stagg Field.

Babson, now winners of ten straight and also third in the most recent NCAA Power Index rankings, improved to 15-1 overall and to 7-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield fell to 9-6, 4-3.

Sarah Healy (Niantic, Conn.) registered her first goal of the season for the Pride, while Amber Wolkner (Farmington, Conn.) picked up her fourth helper of the campaign. Babson received goals from both Penny Baroni and Caroline DiGiovanni, which ties her for the lead in the NEWMAC this season.
Healy put Springfield ahead late in the first quarter as she redirected a long pass from Wolkner for the 1-0 lead. The goal for Healy was her first of the season, second of her career and marked the first time Springfield had a lead in a game against Babson since 2014. It was the first conceded goal by Babson since October 1 – a stretch of over 300 consecutive minutes of play.

Babson answered and knotted the score at one in the second quarter as Baroni rocketed a shot off a short pass from Alex Michelotti. After a scoreless third quarter, DiGiovanni registered a goal playing a player up off a feed from Anna Bonazzoli, giving Babson a 2-1 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in regulation. Babson held Springfield without a shot in the second half en route to the 2-1 final.

Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) made nine saves for the Pride tonight. Babson held a 20-2 advantage in shots and a 19-1 differential in penalty corners.

Springfield will travel to Wheaton College in Norton for a NEWMAC contest on Saturday at noon.
