Healy Lifts Field Hockey Past Wheaton in Final Minute as Springfield Secures NEWMAC Tournament Berth

Norton, Mass - October 25, 2025 - Senior Sarah Healy (Niantic, Conn.) scored with 74 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Springfield College field hockey team past Wheaton College (Mass.), 3-2, in NEWMAC action at Nordin Field.

The victory for Springfield secured its second ten win season in three years and the first time the Pride reached five conference wins since 2022. Springfield, now 10-6 overall and 5-3 in NEWMAC play, also secured the fourth seed in the upcoming conference championship tournament following today's results from across the league. Wheaton dipped to 7-9, 3-5.

Healy registered a goal for the second consecutive game and tallied her first career game-winner today for the Pride. Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) and Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) also added goals for Springfield as well.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, four minutes into the second, Morlock inserted the ball to Moore who ripped a shot into the back of the cage giving Springfield a 1-0 lead.

Wheaton went on to score two consecutive goals in the second and third quarter to take the lead before the Pride were awarded a penalty stroke. Morlock, who is now 5-for-5 on penalty strokes this season, took the stroke and put away the equalizer midway through the third quarter.

With less than two minutes to play and overtime approaching, Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) found Healy who knocked in the ball for the game-winner. Wheaton was unable to find a shot over the final minute of play as Springfield escaped with the 3-2 NEWMAC win.

Springfield led Wheaton 18-8 in shots and 15-5 in penalty corners. In goal, Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.)had four saves and picked up her 100th save of the season - the first 100 save season since Lyndsey DeLasho produced 135 in 2021.

Springfield will head to Dean College for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
