Cambridge, Mass. - October 4, 2025 - The Springfield College men's soccer team lost to conference opponent MIT, 5-3.
The Engineers improve to 3-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference while the Pride drop 5-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.
Tommy Quiterio (Ludlow, Mass.) had two goals for the Pride.Â
It was an offensive battle between the two teams with only one of the eight goals being scored in the first half. That goal came from Shikhar Motupally in the 42nd minute when he was able to get the ball and score after it deflected off of a Springfield defender.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Quiterio was also able to control a deflected ball and bury it for the equalizer.
Quiterio's goal started the back-and-forth of the game as MIT scored in the 48th minute before Quiterio was able to score again five minutes later to make it 2-2.Â
The Engineers then scored two goals within three minutes from one another to put them up by two.Â
Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) scored to put the Pride within one when Springfield was awarded a penalty kick in the 79th minute.
The game was just out of reach for Springfield as MIT added another goal with less than a minute to go to win it, 5-3.
Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) had eight saves in the loss. MIT outshot Springfield a huge margin of 24-14 and had two more corner kicks than the Pride.
The Pride will head to Worcester State on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm.
