Medford, Mass. – February 16, 2025 – Highlighted by a record breaking performance in the hurdles by
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.), the Springfield College women's track and field team put together a strong effort at the Tufts Stampede Open.
DeFosse tied her own school record in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.02 and then became the first in program history to record a sub nine-second time in the event in the finals with a first place finish in 8.92. That new school record currently ranks 21st in Division III this season.
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) and
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) registered third place finishes in the middle distance events as Shea clocked a 5:15.43 in the mile and Olmedo posted a 2:20.88 in the 800-meter run.
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.) recorded a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.32,
Peyton Knott (Leicester, Mass.) took fifth in the 600-meter run in 1:45.29,
Sofia Aguilar (Norwalk, Conn.) finished sixth in the 60-meter dash in 8.23,
Taylor Gibson (Billerica, Mass.) finished ninth in the 1000-meter run in 2:20.88 and
Natalia Marchand (Hubbardston, Mass.) took ninth in the 200-meter dash in 27.39.
Kami Wlodyka (Three Rivers, Mass.) and
Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.) rounded out the highlights for Springfield on the track as Wlodyka posted an 11:07.85 in the 3,000-meter run and Sullivan recorded a 20:14.50 in the 5,000-meter run.
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) paced Springfield in the field events with a runner-up finish in the shot put with a best mark of 12.06-meters in addition to a sixth place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 14.07-meters.
Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) took third in the triple jump with a best leap of 11.53-meter, which ranks 20th in Division III this season, while
Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) cleared 3.40-meters in the pole vault which was good enough for third place.
Autumn Bacik (Watertown, Conn.) rounded out the highlights for Springfield with a sixth place finish in the high jump clearing 1.51-meters and a sixth place finish in the pole vault clearing 3.40-meters.
Springfield will host the Triangle Classic on Saturday beginning at 10:30 am in the Field House.
