Davenport, Fla. – March 20, 2025 – The Springfield College baseball team fell to Wisconsin-River Falls, 17-6, and Fredonia, 3-2, to wrap up its trip to Florida.
River Falls 17, Springfield 6 (7 Innings)
Springfield put together five runs in the bottom of the first inning for the early advantage.
Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) led off the game with a solo home run before
Cole Zalegowski (North Haven, Conn.) knocked in
Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) to make it 2-0. A two-run error and an RBI base hit from
Luke DiMauro (Haddam, Conn.) accounted for the rest of Springfield's five run first.
River Falls scored its first run in the top of the third off a double steal and then added two more in the fourth on a base hit to right center. A two-run double and a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth gave River Falls a 6-5 lead – a lead it would not relinquish.
River Falls put up ten runs in the top of the sixth as the visiting team recorded seven hits including three extra base hits to blow the game wide open. After an infield single and a walk with the bases loaded, Tanner Hraby cleared the bags with a three-RBI double to the gap.
John Santleman and EJ Kuster combined to pitch the final three frames for River Falls allowing just an unearned run and striking out three en route to the 17-6 run-rule final.
Fredonia 3, Springfield 2
Nate Kelleher-Mochak (Florence, Mass.) had a great start for Springfield going the first five frames allowing just two hits and zero runs.
The game was scoreless until an RBI single from
Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) gave Springfield a 1-0 advantage in the top of the seventh. Fredonia answered in the bottom half of the frame with three runs on two RBI base hits and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth,
Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.) cut Springfield's deficit to just one with a base knock to make it 3-2, but Nick Syposs and Joe Tobia shut the Springfield bats down down the stretch to hold the win for Fredonia.
Springfield will return home for a non-conference doubleheader against Westfield State on Sunday beginning at noon.
