Springfield, Mass. – March 26, 2025 – The Springfield College baseball team ended its losing skid and picked up a 5-3 win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday afternoon at Archie Allen Field.
Springfield improved to 4-12, while Saint Joseph's moved to 8-6.
Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) had a great day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI, while
JP Catellier (Springfield, Mass.) picked up the first two hits of his career and scored a run for the Pride. Both
Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) and
Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.) tallied single hits and runs as well to round out the Springfield offense.
Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.) walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning to give Springfield the early 1-0 edge before the Monks got out of the jam with a flyout to right. Then trailing 2-1 in the third, Dunaisky roped a two-run triple to left field to push Springfield back out in front 3-2 through three frames.
Springfield added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth – one on a sacrifice fly from Lepere that plated Catellier and one on a double steal as the Pride led 5-2 before Saint Joseph's got a single run back in the sixth to make it 5-3 through five and a half innings.
The score remained the same for the rest of the game with
Brock Goodwin (Orange, Conn.) and
Jack Richburg (Hinesburg, Vt.) combining to go the final five innings on the bump for Springfield. The duo scattered three hits allowed one run and struck out two en route to the win. Goodwin improved to 1-1, while Richburg earned his first save.
Springfield will host Wheaton College for a NEWMAC doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon from Archie Allen Field
