Dartmouth, Mass. – March 30, 2025 – The Springfield College women's track and field team opened the outdoor season with a second place finish at the Corsair Classic. The Pride finished with a team score of 102 points only behind WPI, which won the meet with 112.
Springfield won three different events on the track as
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.) crossed the line first in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.27,
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) finished first in the 1,500-meter run in 4:56.17 and the 4x400-meter relay team of
Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.), Brillo,
Taylor Gibson (Billerica, Mass.) and
Natalia Marchand (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished first in 4:16.35.
Marchand went on to take third in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.64 and fifth in the 200-meter dash in 27.37, while Gibson produced a third place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:28.18 only behind
Peyton Knott (Leicester, Mass.), who took runner-up honors in 2:27.93.
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) registered a third place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.98, while
Ella Couchon (Windsor Locks, Conn.) took sixth in both the 100-meter dash (13.30) and the 200-meter dash (27.54).
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) rounded out the highlights on the track for Springfield with her fourth place finish in the 1,500-meter run in 5:00.60 and sixth place finish in the 5,000-meter run in 18:45.51.
Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.) also produced a top-10 finish in the 5,000-meter run in 18:47.99.
Ella Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) registered the best finish for Springfield in the field events as she took second in the pole vault clearing 3.25-meters.
Elizabeth Lewelling (Palmdale, Calif.) finished right behind Smith in the pole vault clearing 2.80-meters and also led the Pride in the long jump with a leap of 4.83-meters for eighth place.
Jillian Barry (South Royalton, Vt.) and
Rebecca Cahill (Brewster, Mass.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the triple jump with marks of 9.88-meters and 9.81-meters, respectively, while
Summer Sobieski (South Deerfield, Mass.) cleared 1.41-meters for sixth in the high jump.
Bailey McDevitt (Wakefield, Mass.) produced a sixth place finish in the javelin with a best toss of 32.01-meters,
Mackenzie Gingras (Seekonk, Mass.) took 11th in the hammer (32.77-meters),
Sierra Bryte (Groton, Conn.) finished 11th in the shot put (9.34-meters) and
Maggie Stevens (West Brookfield, Mass.)took 22nd in the discus (23.00-meters) to wrap up Saturday's Corsair Classic.
The Pride will host the Springfield College Classic on Saturday, April 5 on Blake Track.
