Springfield, Mass. – April 10, 2025 – In the first meeting between the two programs in 11 seasons, the Springfield College baseball team defeated Framingham State University, 11-6, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon on Archie Allen Field.
Springfield improved its record to 7-14, while Framingham State dipped to 5-16.
Springfield's offense produced 11 runs and 15 hits led by a 4-for-5 day at the plate with two runs and three RBI from
Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.). The top four hitters in Springfield's lineup in
Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.),
Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.),
Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) and Balchius combined to go 11-for-20 with four RBI and seven runs.
Dan Surette (Braintree, Mass.) and
Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.) both added two RBI apiece for the Pride in the win.
After going down 2-0 following the top of the first, Springfield's offense responded and took the lead for good with three runs of its own in the bottom of the opening frame. Balchius plated Crocker and Garafalo on a triple to right before
Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) brought in Balchius on an RBI groundout.
With runners on second and third in the bottom of the fourth, Surette plated
Cole Zalegowski (North Haven, Conn.) and
Andrew Sweet (Charlton, Mass.) with a two-run triple of his own pushing Springfield ahead 5-2. Framingham State was able to pull within one with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but single runs for Springfield in the fifth and the sixth – one on Balchius' second RBI triple of the game and one on a base knock from Crocker made it 7-4.
Then up just one, 7-6, in the bottom of the eighth, Springfield exploded for four runs accounting for the 11-6 final. Dunaisky brought in Garafalo and Balchius on a two run single to center before a two run single with the bases loaded plated
Tyler Casey (Wallingford, Conn.) and Dunaisky off a knock from Lloyd.
Springfield used five different pitchers this afternoon as
Ryan Baker (North Reading, Mass.) was credited with the win going four frames and allowing two runs in the middle innings.
Jack Richburg (Hinesburg, Vt.)picked up his second save of the season tossing the final two frames allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Springfield will host MIT in NEWMAC action tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
