Baseball Launches Three Homers in 11-3 Non-Conference Win at Nichols

Dudley, Mass. – April 16, 2025 – The Springfield College baseball team roped three home runs over the fence and picked up an 11-3 non-conference win over Nichols College on the road on Wednesday afternoon.

Springfield earned its tenth win of the season and is now 10-16, while Nichols fell to 14-13.

Eight different student-athletes for Springfield recorded a hit this afternoon – three of which were home runs.

The game was tied at three heading into the top of the seventh when Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) and Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.) drilled back-to-back solo shots over the fence in right field to gain a 5-3 edge. An RBI triple from Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) made it 6-3 in the top of the eighth, before Springfield exploded for five additional runs in the top of the ninth.

With the bases loaded in the ninth, Cole Zalegowski (North Haven, Conn.) drilled an RBI single to left before a sacrifice fly from Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) made it 8-3. Ryan Duffy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) stepped to the plate and launched a three-run homer to left to account for the 11-3 final.

The three home runs this afternoon were the most in a single game for Springfield since launching four at Emerson on April 19, 2022.

Ryan Baker (North Reading, Mass.) got the start for Springfield and went the first four innings before Ethan Gray (Lincoln, RI), Brady Fellows (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Steve Cifarelli (Orange, Conn.) shut the door against the Bison. Fellows was credited with his first win of the year, while Cifarelli picked up the save.

Gray, Fellows and Cifarelli combined to allow just one run and two hits to go along with four strikeouts over the final five frames of the game.

Springfield will travel to Clark for a NEWMAC twinbill on Saturday beginning at noon.
