Springfield, Mass. – April 22, 2025 – The Springfield College baseball team fell to Coast Guard, 5-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday afternoon on Archie Allen Field.
Coast Guard improved to 18-12 overall and to 7-4 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dipped to 10-19, 3-8 with just five conference contests left on the schedule in 2025.
Springfield produced nine hits as a team with two each coming from
Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.),
Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) and
Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.).
Following a leadoff triple by Carson Cho in the third, Coast Guard took advantage of a Springfield error to score the game's initial run before a sacrifice fly gave the visiting Bears a 2-0 edge through two and a half frames. Then, back-to-back singles, a flyout and a fielder's choice made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth.
Springfield finally broke the shutout in the bottom of the seventh as singles by Lepere and Crocker paired with an error cut the Pride's deficit to two. Coast Guard, however, answered and put the game out of reached with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single accounting for the 5-1 final.
The Coast Guard pitching staff, despite allowing nine Springfield hits, surrendered just the single unearned run and struck out nine batters on Tuesday afternoon on the road. Despite going the first seven frames,
Josh Mayo (Westfield, Mass.) shouldered the loss (1-6).
Springfield will travel to Keene State tomorrow for its final non-conference contest of the year at 3:30 pm.
