Springfield, Mass. – April 22, 2025 – In a midweek New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on the Appleton Tennis Courts, Smith College defeated the Springfield College women's tennis team by a 7-0 final.
Smith improved to 7-9 overall and to 4-3 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dropped to 8-7, 3-4 with just one conference game left to play for both squads.
Smith eased by Springfield in all three doubles contests with the Pioneers winning 6-0 at both No. 1 and No. 2 before Sabrina Wang and Natazya Simunyola defeated
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) and
Natalia Peyon (Hong Kong) 6-2 at No. 3.
The Pioneers won all six matches over the Pride to complete the 7-0 sweep. The closest match of the day came at No. 1 as Ayla Hauser clipped
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. The remaining five singles matches were decided in straight sets.
Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) fell to Simunyola, 7-5, 6-3, while
Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.
Springfield will wrap up the regular season at Emerson College on Saturday at 3:30 pm.
