Baseball Overpowers Elms, 18-2

Springfield, Mass. – April 3, 2025 – The Springfield College baseball team scored 18 unanswered runs over the first five innings of the game to secure an 18-2, seven inning, non-conference victory over Elms College on Thursday afternoon on Archie Allen Field.

Springfield improved to 6-14, while Elms dropped to 7-13.

Springfield produced 18 runs, its largest run output since scoring 21 runs on April 29, 2022 at the Coast Guard Academy. Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) and Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) both produced two hits, two runs and three RBI, while Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.)Thomas Tantillo (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) all tallied two RBI apiece. Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.) and Andrew Sweet (Charlton, Mass.) also tallied two hits apiece for the Pride.

On the bump, Ryan Baker (North Reading, Mass.) earned his first win of the season as he threw four innings, scattered five hits and allowed one earned run. Brock Goodwin (Orange, Conn.) and Liam Skribiski-Banack (South Deerfield, Mass.) closed the game on the hill for the Pride over the final three frames.

Elms scored one in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch with the bases loaded before a two-run shot over the fence in right from Garafalo gave Springfield a 2-1 lead – a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Springfield then exploded for eight runs in the third and six runs in the fourth to blow the game wide open. Dunaisky lined a two-run triple to left center to open the scoring in the third before Lloyd, Sweet and Lepere knocked in runs in the frame.

Springfield used a bases loaded hit by pitch to score its first run of the fourth before a Garafalo RBI knock and a bases loaded walk made it 13-1. Crocker then drilled a two-run double to the gap, Dunaisky drove in one with a single down the line and Tantillo capped the scoring with a two-run single to left in the fifth to account for the 18-2 final.

Springfield's doubleheader against Rivier scheduled for Sunday has been postponed. The next time Springfield will play is now on Tuesday against MIT in NEWMAC action from Archie Allen Field at 3:30 pm.
