Springfield, Mass. – April 6, 2025 – The Springfield College women's track and field team won ten events en route to claiming the team title at the SC Outdoor Classic on Sunday afternoon at Blake Track.
Springfield produced 251 points to finish ahead of WPI (174), Keene State (86), Castleton (70), UMaine Farmington (47), Colby-Sawyer (24), American International (21), Hampshire (15) and Johnson State (14).
In addition to winning the meet, individually
Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) tied the school record in the pole vault clearing 3.40-meters (11 feet, 1.75 inches). Scott, who also broke the indoor pole vault record earlier this season, tied Emily Racana's record today from the 2021 outdoor season.
Springfield ended today's meet with five wins in the field events and five victories on the track.
Autumn Bacik (Watertown, Conn.) began the day clearing 1.61-meters for first in the high jump before Scott's first place finish in the pole vault. Bacik also claimed runner-up accolades in the pole vault behind Scott clearing 3.25-meters. In the triple jump,
Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) registered a win as she produced a mark of 11.61-meters.
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) had a stellar day in the throws as she won the shot put (12.47-meters) and also took runner-up honors in the discus (36.74-meters) and the hammer (41.97-meters).
Madilynn Van Etten (Cumberland, R.I.) won the hammer throw (42.25-meters) to round out the winners in the field events for the Pride.
Hannah Debian (West Springfield, Mass.) recorded a third place finish in the shot put (11.20-meters) and a sixth place finish in the discus (31.88-meters),
Bailey McDevitt (Wakefield, Mass.) took third in the javelin (32.96-meters), while
Elizabeth Lewelling (Palmdale, Calif.) took third in the long jump (4.88-meters).
On the track,
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.38 after producing a time of 14.89 in prelims. DeFosse was also one of three finalists in the 100-meter dash as
Ella Couchon (Windsor Locks, Conn.) crossed the line third in 13.28,
Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.) finished fifth in 13.49 and DeFosse took sixth in 13.51.
Couchon went on to have a great meet as she took second in the 200-meter dash in 27.28 and teamed up with
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.),
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) and
Mackenzie DiDonato (Thomaston, Conn.) for first in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:12.09.
Brillo won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.98, Olmedo paced a 1-2-3 finish for the Pride in the 800-meter run in 2:22.22, while DiDonato took second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.80.
Taylor Gibson (Billerica, Mass.) and
Leah Castle (Ashford, Conn.) followed Olmedo in the 800-meter run with times of 2:26.01 and 2:26.72 for second and third, respectively.
Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.) and
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) recorded a 1-2 finish in the 1,500-meter run with times of 4:54.45 and 4:54.79, respectively, to round out the track highlights for Springfield this afternoon.
Springfield will travel to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
