Field Hockey Topples Worcester State, 5-1

Worcester, Mass. - September 11, 2025 - The Springfield College field hockey team beat Worcester State in a non-conference matchup, 5-1.

The Pride improve to 3-1 overall while the Lancers drop to 0-4. Springfield had six different student-athletes register a goal or an assist. Rachel Simkewicz (Westminster, Mass.) recorded two goals while Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) scored a goal and had an assist.

The Lancers had a strong defensive showing throughout the entire game and held Springfield scoreless through the first quarter despite facing several scoring opportunities.

Just over a minute into the second quarter, the Pride broke through during a corner. Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) inserted the ball to Moore who drove it into the bottom right corner to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.

In the 34th minute, Springfield earned another corner and capitalized on it once again. Amber Wolkner (Farmington, Conn.) took the initial shot off of the corner, which was deflected, but the ball found its way back to her and she ripped it past the goalkeeper.

Less than ten minutes later, Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.)  connected with Simkewicz on a free hit. She then dribbled the ball deeper into the circle and shot it past the keeper to put the Pride up by three.

Early in the fourth quarter, Worcester State got on the board. Maggie Nailor sent a ball into the circle on a corner, and Kylie Casey got a stick on it to deflect in into the cage to put the Lancers within two.

Moore stole the ball from Worcester State in the 55th minute and connected with Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) who was sprinting to the circle. Gaydos controlled the pass and lifted it past the goalkeeper.

Simkewicz added another goal for the Pride with just about a minute left to give the Pride a 5-1 win.

Springfield outshot Worcester State an astounding 29-5 and earned four more penalty corners than the Pride. Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) had three saves in the win.

The Pride host Western Connecticut on Stagg Field on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
