Hartford, Conn. - September 17, 2025 - The Springfield College field hockey team dropped a game to a strong Trinity (Conn.) team on Wednesday night, 6-4.
The Pride are now 4-2, while Trinity improves to 2-2.
Rachel Simkewicz (Westminster, Mass.) had two goals for Springfield - she has scored a goal in each of the last four games.
Emma Spagnolo (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.) scored her first goal of her career.
Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) had seven saves in the loss.Â
Trinity struck first and twice, scoring the first two goals of the game within two minutes of one another. They scored their first goal after Claire Griffith deflected the ball into the goal to put Trinity on the board. Griffith then scored the second goal after driving the ball from the top of the circle and burying it in the bottom left corner.Â
In the 7th minute of the game, the Trinity goalkeeper came out of the goal and dove to clear the ball. While trying to recover, Spagnolo took possession and shot it past the keeper.Â
Springfield was awarded a corner two minutes into the second quarter, and after the initial shot was unsuccessful, the Pride kept it in the circle andÂ
Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) connected with Simkewicz who was able to net the equalizer.Â
The Pride then took the lead in the 19th minute when Simkewicz scored after rebounding the ball from her initial shot and then netted the second shot to make it, 3-2.Â
With less than two minutes to go in the second quarter, Trinity tied up the game after lifting the ball past Orcutt.Â
In the third quarter, Brooke Dibiase tracked down the ball after it was deflected away from her. She gained control and scored to give Trinity the lead.
The Bantams final two goals were scored within two minutes of one another. Riley Harrington scored after shooting the ball which was deflected into the goal. Trinity's final goal came off of a corner when it swept it into the cage.Â
In the 57th minute, the Pride were awarded a penalty stroke that
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) took and netted.Â
Trinity outshot Springfield 27-13, and also had four more penalty corners than the Pride. Â
Springfield will travel to Salve Regina for a 12:00 pm matchup on Saturday for its first conference game of the season.Â
