Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - September 23, 2025 - A goal with less than two minutes remaining in the first half was the difference as Vassar College defeated the Springfield College men's soccer team, 1-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
Vassar, which entered today ranked sixth in the United Soccer Coaches Region III poll, improved to 4-2-1, while Springfield, which began the afternoon ranked fifth in Region II, fell to 5-3-0.
In the tightly contested matchup, Vassar held a 14-12 edge in shots, but the Brewers were only able to produce two shots on goal - one of which ended up being the goal. Both teams took three corner kicks apiece.
Eli Torrey's first goal of the season was the difference as he gathered the ball off a feed from Zapp Hotz to give Vassar the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Jared Kelly (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) had a look for the equalizer for the Pride in the 55th minute, but his attempt was stopped by Jacob Raphan to preserve the shutout.
Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) made one save in the setback for the Pride.
Springfield will host Babson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The two teams will enter the match as the fourth and fifth ranked teams in the region.
