Springfield, Mass. - September 24, 2025 - The Springfield College field hockey team was defeated by Western New England, 3-1, on Wednesday night.
The Golden Bears improve to 6-3 overall while the Pride drop to 5-3 as both teams will soon enter a stretch of conference games.
The Pride scored first off of a corner as
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) inserted the ball to
Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) who drove it into the back of the cage in the 9th minute.Â
Western New England started to pick up some momentum after halftime when they notched their first goal eight minutes into the third quarter. After a scuffle in front of the cage, Tessa Ebreo controlled the ball and put it away to tie it up.
Two minutes into fourth quarter, Mikayla Mrzwka dribbled through the circle to the front of the goal to give Western New England the lead. Mrzwka scored again after receiving the ball at the post to put the Golden Bears up by two with just four minutes to play.
Western New England held an 11-7 edge in shots and had one more penalty corner than the Springfield.
Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) had seven saves in the loss.
The Pride will head to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday to face conference opponent WPI at 4:30 pm.Â
