Worcester, Mass. – September 27, 2025 – WPI scored three unanswered goals to earn a 3-1 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over the Springfield College field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
WPI improved to 7-2 overall and to 2-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield fell to 5-4, 1-1.
Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) registered her fourth goal of the season to put Springfield ahead 1-0 in the very first minute of the contest. The strike was set up by
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.), who inserted the ball off a penalty corner, before Moore ripped her shot from the top of the arc.
The score remained the same until late in the first half when Lauren Meinhold tallied the equalizer for the homestanding Engineers. Leah Uglevich then recorded what proved to be the game winner for WPI in the 48th minute off a pair of one touch passes for her fourth tally of the fall. Emma Barton then connected with Madeline Chase to account for the 3-1 final.
WPI held a 16-9 edge in shots (11-8 on goal) and an 8-4 margin in penalty corners. Springfield keeper
Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) tallied seven saves in the cage this afternoon.
Springfield will step out of conference play for a home game against the University of Hartford on Wednesday at 5:00 pm in its penultimate non-conference contest of the fall.
