Brittany Iaiennaro '17 Named Springfield College Supervising Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor of Athletic Training

Springfield, Mass. — October 13, 2026 — The Springfield College Department of Athletics and the School of Physical Education, Performance and Sports Leadership have announced the hiring of Brittany Iaiennaro '17 as a Supervising Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor of Athletic Training.

"There's something incredibly special about returning to the place that has always felt like home," said Iaiennaro. "This is where I learned so much, found my passion, and was shaped into the person and professional I am today. To have the opportunity to come back, give back, and help shape the next generation is something I'm truly grateful for and excited about."

Iaiennaro will oversee the football team and women's gymnastics team, and joins Springfield after spending the last five and a half years at NCAA Division I Iona University in New Rochelle, N.Y. In 2025, she was promoted to the Associate Director of Sports Medicine where she spent time collaborating closely with team physicians, physical therapists, strength and conditioning staff and psychologists. She also supervised associate/assistant athletic trainers along with student interns, and took a lead role in coordunating insurance and the department's internship program. Prior to her promotion, Iaiennaro was an Assistant Athletic Trainer and oversaw the men's lacrosse, men's water polo, men's basketball, women's soccer, softball, cross country and track and field programs throughout her time with the Gaels.

"I am thrilled that Brittany Iaiennaro has chosen to bring her skills, knowledge, and experience back to the place where her career in athletic training began," said said M. Susan Guyer, Dean of the School of PEPSL. "Brittany started her journey at Springfield College as an undergraduate athletic training student, including gaining valuable experience working with football, and it is exciting to welcome her home in this new role. Her experiences at Iona, St. Thomas, and at the high school level, have prepared her to make an immediate impact. While Brittany will provide exceptional healthcare to our student-athletes, she will also serve as an important mentor to our athletic training students. She has a deep passion for teaching and developing the next generation of athletic trainers, and her professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment to the profession will be tremendous assets to our program."

Iaiennaro earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training in 2017 from Springfield where she also spent a short-term sports medicine study abroad at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China. She went on to receive her master's degree in athletic training at the A.T. Still University, the founding university of osteopathic healthcare, in 2019. She is currently a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and owns five different professional certifications.

"Brittany's background and experience in the athletic training field will only improve the overall student-athlete experience," said Executive Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson. "Springfield College has long been recognized for its strong athletic training program and I look forward to her contributions in continuing to uphold this standard of excellence."

Prior to her time at Iona, Iaiennaro was the Assistant/Lead Sprint Football Athletic Trainer at St. Thomas Aquinas College. She worked with and provided care to athletes competing in 18 different NCAA Division II sports while with the Spartans. She also spent time as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona from 2017-19. During that time, she also worked as a Per Diem Athletic Trainer for Chandler Youth Pop Warner Football, Baseball Factory Under Armor All-America and AT Direct Sports Medicine, all located throughout Arizona.

"Bringing one of our own back to the sports medicine team is a true win for our department," said Chair of the Athletic Training Department and Interim Director of Healthcare, Jessica Barrett. "Since graduating from Springfield College Brittany has gained valuable experience and grown into a highly skilled healthcare professional. We are happy to have her return to Alden Street to teach in our MSAT program and protect the health and safety of our student-athletes. She understands our culture, our traditions, and what it means to represent Springfield College Athletic Training. Her experience, combined with her personal investment in this program, makes her the perfect fit to elevate athletic healthcare services and to inspire the next generation of athletic training students."
