Baseball Drops 5-3 Decision to Farmingdale State

Davenport, Fla. – March 17, 2026 – The Springfield College baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision to Farmingdale State College on Tuesday evening at Northeast Regional Park on day three of the program's trip to Florida.

Farmingdale improved to 2-5, while Springfield dropped to 7-3.

Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 including a double with a pair of RBI for the Pride, while Tyler Casey (Wallingford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored two of Springfield's three runs. As a team, Springfield also produced four stolen bases.

The two sides traded single runs over the first three innings as Springfield held a 2-1 edge through three. Lepere plated Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.) with an RBI single to center for the game's first run before he drove in Springfield's second run in the third on a single up the middle plating Casey.

Farmingdale took the lead for good in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs, which came off the bat of John Francisco with two outs in the frame. The Rams loaded the bases before a fielders choice cut one run down at the plate. Ryan Baker (North Reading, Mass.) then earned a five pitch strikeout before Francisco plated the go ahead runs.

An error allowed Farmingdale to add a run in the sixth, while Springfield was set down in order in the fifth and sixth.

Down 4-2 in the eighth, Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) plated Casey on a sacrifice fly, but Robert Malvino, who earned the two inning save got out of the jam. Malvino then returned to the mound in the ninth and got all three Pride batters to strikeout looking to account for the 5-3 final.

Thomas O'Neill earned the win (1-0) for the Rams going the first five and striking out seven. Baker took the loss (1-1) on four innings, seven hits, three runs and two strikeouts.

Springfield will return to action tomorrow at 9:45 am to finish its game against Mount Saint Vincent at the Lake Myrtle Complex. Springfield holds a 9-4 lead in the top of the fourth frame.
