Coast Guard Bests Women's Lacrosse

New London, Conn. - March 28, 2026 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team was defeated by New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon, 11-6.

With the win, Coast Guard improves to 7-1 overall and remains undefeated at 4-0 in conference play while Springfield drops to 3-6, 1-2.

Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Sophie Adams (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored two goals apiece as Lalancette also tallied three ground balls. Elyse Altland (North Bennington, Vt.) and Payton Imhof (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each notched two caused turnovers as Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.) recorded five draw controls.

The first quarter saw a back-and-forth between the two teams as Lalancette scored the first goal of the game on a free-position shot at 11:17 to lead, but the Bears equalized less than two minutes later. Imhof then passed it off to Newton who found the back of the net before Coast Guard tied it up at two at 5:37. The Bears then went on to score one more goal at the end of the first and left Springfield scoreless through the second quarter as Coast Guard added three more goals, taking a 6-2 lead going into the halftime break.

Springfield came out of the break looking to come back as Adams netted one off a pass from Lalancette, but Coast Guard matched it less than a minute later, 7-3. The Bears added another before Claire Ognibene (New Canaan, Conn.) scored a man-up free position goal at 7:12 as Coast Guard netted another at the end of the third to lead 9-4 heading into the final quarter.

The Pride threatened in the fourth quarter as Lalancette and Adams scored again, bringing Springfield within three before Abby McAllister and Joely Schaumloffel each added a goal for the eventual 11-6 win.

The Bears held the edge in shots (23-21), ground balls (16-11) and went 18-for-21 on the clear. Springfield led 10-9 in draw controls while going 15-for-16 in transition. In net, Cedar Conrad (Amherst, Mass.) and Lindsay Hillemeir (Unionville, Conn.) combined for eight saves.

The Pride head to Mount Holyoke on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm game.
