Springfield, Mass. – March 31, 2026 – A two-run double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth by
Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) gave the Springfield College baseball team a 7-6 walk-off non-conference win over Castleton University on Tuesday afternoon on Archie Allen Field.
Springfield improved to 13-5, while Castleton dropped to 5-15.
Lepere and
Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.) ended the day with a hit and two RBI, while
Aaron Little (Ludlow, Mass.) earned the win out of the pen going the final 1.2 frames to secure the non-conference victory for the Pride.
After a quiet first two innings, Springfield struck first as
Kyle Mitchell (Beacon, N.Y.) plated
Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia), who singled to center to begin the frame. The visitors got two back in the top of the fourth, but the Pride quickly answered with three of their own in the bottom of the same inning. Lepere, who began the inning by reaching on a hit by pitch, scored on a wild pitch to tie the score before Lloyd put Springfield ahead with a two-run single up the middle making it 4-2.
Tyler Casey (Wallingford, Conn.) then belted an opposite field homer to right extending the lead to three. Casey's round tripper was his second of the campaign.
Castleton responded with a run in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the top of the ninth to take a 6-5 lead heading into the final half inning. Crocker earned a walk to start the ninth before
Ryan Duffy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) dropped a bunt single. Both runners then moved to second and third on a sac bunt by Mitchell. The Spartans elected to load the bases with an intentional walk to Casey allowing Lepere to step to the plate with the bases loaded and just one out.
Up 2-0 in the count, Lepere ripped his walk-off double to the gap in right center lifting the Pride to the 7-6 win.
Springfield will travel to Amherst College tomorrow for a non-conference game against the Mammoths at 3:30pm. The originally scheduled contest with Curry has been postponed as the two teams will try and find a day to reschedule later in the season.
