Boston, Mass. - April 10, 2026 - The Springfield College softball team was swept by MIT in a Friday afternoon New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Boston University.
MIT improves to 21-3 overall and 7-1 in the conference while Springfield drops to 14-7, 5-3.
In the doubleheader, Madi Testo (Keene, N.H.), Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y) and Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) each notched four hits while driving in a run and tallying at least one extra-base hit. DeRosa roped two triples and also scored twice.
Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) became the 13th student-athlete in program history to reach 100 career RBI and the first since Callie Gendron '25 did so a season ago.
Game 1: MIT 4, Springfield 1
The Engineers got off to a hot start scoring all of their runs in the first inning as MIT led off with back-to-back walks who were brought in by a single from Lauren Sunquist. Later that inning, two consecutive singles brought in two more runs as MIT took a 4-0 lead.
Springfield scored its lone run of the game in the top of the fifth when DeRosa hit a single out to right field to bring in Rachel Powers (Tigard, Ore.) as the Pride cut the Engineers lead, 4-1, but both teams would remain scoreless through the rest of the game as MIT would get the win.
Game 2: MIT 7, Springfield 6 (8 Innings)
The Pride were down 5-1 through four innings before having a rally inning in the fifth. Pecchia hit a double to center field to bring in DeRosa and Testo. Later that inning, Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) hit a ground ball to the shortstop who opted to get the runner out at third, allowing Addy Bohlander (Thiells, N.Y.) to score as MIT still led 5-4.
A sacrifice fly from Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.) in the sixth would bring in DeRosa to tie it at five and eventually force extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Testo doubled to bring in Eckles before MIT would tie it a six for Arianna Kumar to then hit a walk off to center field in the bottom of the inning to win it 7-6.
The Pride head to Wheaton (Mass.) tomorrow for another NEWMAC doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
