Worcester, Mass. - April 11, 2026 - The Springfield College baseball team split with New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Clark on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride improve to 17-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference while the Cougars drop to 16-10, 3-4.
Kyle Mitchell (Wallingford, Conn.) went 5-for-8 with a double, triple and RBI over the doubleheader as Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, three RBI, a double and a home run. Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.) had four hits, four runs scored, drove in three runs and hit two home runs.
Nate Kelleher-Mochak (Florence, Mass.) got the win on the mound in game one after pitching 5.0 innings while Jack Richburg (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Jake Gombotz (South Windsor, Conn.) were effective in relief, as the two combined for four strikeouts while letting up one hit without allowing a single run.
Game 1: Springfield 10, Clark 6
After an inside-the-park home run from Balchius to lead off the top of the first, Clark scored three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
Springfield began to chip away in the second as Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored after a triple from Kyle Mitchell (Wallingford, Conn.) and then took the lead in the third as Crocker doubled down the line in the third to bring home Balchius and Tyler Casey (Wallingford, Conn.), 4-3.
Clark regained the lead in the fourth as Dom Mariani hit a two-run home run to left field and then Myles Fournier hit a homerun in the fifth to take the 6-4 lead.
Luke Barone (Monroe, N.Y.) tied it at six in the top of the sixth after hitting a two-run home run that also brought in Crocker. Three batters later, Balchius hit a two-run home run to also score Dan Surette (Braintree, Mass.) as the Pride took a 8-6 lead.
In the seventh, Barone hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.) before Surette hit a sacrifice fly to score Sam Gilgenbach (Griswold, Conn.). After scoreless eighth and ninth innings, Springfield was able to take the win, 10-6.
Game 2: Clark 11, Springfield 6
The Cougars led 5-1 through the third inning as a home run from Crocker in the second put the Pride on the board before Springfield added more in the fourth. Barone doubled to bring in Lloyd and Dunaisky before he scored on an error from Clark to make it 4-5 in favor of Clark before the Cougars added one more in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Lloyd hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Balchius to come within one. The Cougars scored five more runs through the eighth before Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth, but it was not enough as Clark won it 11-6.
The Pride head to Coast Guard on Tuesday for a NEWMAC matchup at 3:30 pm.
