New London, Conn. – April 14, 2026 – The Springfield College baseball team dropped a 3-1 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) decision at Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon splitting the 2026 season series with the Bears.
Springfield dropped to 17-9 on the year after today's result.
Six of Springfield's eight hits on the day came from
Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.),
Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) and
Luke Barone (Monroe, N.Y.) all notching two on the day.
Coast Guard scored one run in innings two, three and four for the 3-0 lead. Yadisson Karbalaiesghar began the scoring with a homer to left in the bottom of the second before the Bears received RBI from Tyler Michalek and Kael Godshalk in the ensuing frames.
Springfield answered with its lone run of the day in the top of the fifth. Barone began the inning with a single to center and moved to third on a single by Balchius. On a stolen base from Balchius, Barone came across with the run on an error.
Jackson Dorsey, who pitched the final four innings for Coast Guard earned the save, preserving the 3-1 result for the hosts. Michalek and Dorsey combined for 12 strikeouts on the bump and scattered just eight hits and allowed the unearned run today for the Bears.
Jack Richburg (Hinesburg, Vt.) took the loss going the first three innings for Springfield.
Springfield will travel to Curry College for a non-conference contest on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
