Northampton, Mass. - April 14, 2026 - The Springfield College women's tennis team was defeated by New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Smith on Tuesday afternoon, 5-2.

The Bears improve to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference while the Pride drop to 8-5, 4-2. 

Smith swept all of the doubles matches as Erica Jud (Glen Head, N.Y.) and Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) battled against Ayla Hauser and Natazya Simunyola, losing a close 7-6 match at No. 2 doubles. 

Ava Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) defeated Sophia Dube by scores of 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6 singles while Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) earned a comeback win at No. 1 by scores of 4-6, 6-3 and 10-4. The Bears went on to win No. 2 singles through No. 5 singles in straight sets. 

Springfield will look to bounce back against Western New England on Thursday at 3:30 pm on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
