Springfield, Mass. – April 8, 2026 – The Springfield College baseball team produced 13 runs and 15 hits in a 13-8 non-conference victory over Western New England University on Wednesday afternoon at Trelease Park.
Springfield is now 16-7 overall, while Western New England drops to 10-14 having lost six contests in a row.
The top six batters in Springfield's lineup registered two or more hits highlighted by a three hit performance by
Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.).
Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.),
Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.),
Tyler Casey (Wallingford, Conn.),
Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.) and
Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) all recorded two hits, while in the eight hole,
Kyle Mitchell (Wallingford, Conn.) matched them with two hits of his own.
Balchius came across to score five of Springfield's 13 runs at the top of the lineup, while Casey recorded five of Springfield's ten RBI on the night from the three slot. As a team, Springfield also notched seven stolen bases in the win.
Springfield used seven pitchers in a bullpen game for the Pride with
Kyle Vitro (Carmel, N.Y.) earning the win as he tossed the seventh inning. Connor Flynn took the loss for the Golden Bears as the starter for the host allowing four runs, three hits and four walks.
After a quiet first two innings, Balchius scored the first run for the Pride on a wild pitch before a groundout by Lloyd plated Lepere for the 2-0 lead. Western New England responded with three of its own in the bottom half of the frame as Tyler Kornacki roped a two-run double to the gap before a single up the middle made it 3-2.
Springfield wasted little time regaining the lead as the Pride put up four in the top of the fourth. Crocker scored the tying run on an error before Mitchell plated
Luke Barone (Monroe, N.Y.) to give Springfield a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Before the fourth was over, Mitchell scored on a single by Balchius and Balchius then scored on a wild pitch making it 6-3. Mitchell stepped to the plate in the fifth and brought in Dunaisky for Springfield's seventh run.
The two sides traded runs in the middle innings and Western New England was able to get within one at 8-7 after a three run bottom of the sixth, but Springfield put the game away with four more runs in the top of the seventh.
Springfield loaded the bases in the seventh before Casey quickly cleared the with a double to center. Casey then scored Springfield's 12th run on a single by Dunaisky. The Pride added an insurance run in the ninth to account for the 13-8 final.
Ryan Delaney (Ellington, Conn.) and
Aaron Little (Ludlow, Mass.) closed out the game for Springfield out of the pen tonight going the final two frames.
Springfield will travel to Clark University on Saturday for a NEWMAC doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
