Middlebury, Vt. — September 25, 2026 — The Springfield College men's tennis team opened up the 2026-27 season with four student-athletes competing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships on the campus of Middlebury College.
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) led Springfield in the main singles draw with a win over Jaime Galligo of Wheaton (Mass.) by scores of 6-2, 6-3. This marks the first time a student-athlete has one a match in the main singles draw since 2016. He then faced Hunter Liao of MIT, dropping the match by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Deagan Tomkins (Moama, Australia) debuted for the Pride in the main singles draw and was defeated by Bowdoin's Jackson Codd by scores of 6-3, 6-4.
Both Akito Shimamura (Hirono, Japan) and Austin Prendiville (City Beach, Australia) fell in the main doubles draw 8-1 as the duo from Wesleyan (Conn.) defeated the Pride.
Prendiville also competed in the singles "B" draw defeated Antonio Lee of Colby 8-5 before losing to seeded Nico Tremblay of Tufts 8-4.
The Pride will host UMass Boston on Wednesday at 3:30 pm on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
