Field Hockey Defeats Husson, 1-0

Springfield, Mass. — September 30, 2026 — The Springfield College field hockey team defeated Husson on Wednesday evening on Stagg Field, 1-0.

The Pride improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Eagles drop to 2-7.

Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) had the lone goal for the Pride as Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) had three saves and recorded her second shutout of the year.

The Pride were scoreless through the first two quarters as Springfield controlled the first quarter having numerous chances with eight shots and six penalty corners. The second quarter saw more back-and-forth action with the Beacons leading with three shots and a penalty corner but both teams still entered the halftime break even at zero.

Just over 30 seconds into the third quarter, the Pride earned a penalty corner, which Maddie O'Brien (Franklin, Mass.) inserted and Moore drove the ball into the back of the net to give Springfield the lead, 1-0.

Both teams were evenly matched in the fourth quarter with Springfield taking control in the beginning while Husson put the pressure on late. The Eagles registered four penalty corners with less than two minutes remaining but the defense held strong as Springfield earned the 1-0 win.

The Pride outshot Husson 18-9 while also holding a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal and an 18-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Springfield returns to conference play on Saturday on the road against MIT at 12:00 pm.
