Springfield, Mass. — January 17, 2009 — Sparked by the winning meet-ending 200-yard relay, the Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team defeated NYU this afternoon, 124-119, at Springfield’s Art Linkletter Natatorium.
The final relay determined the winner of the meet. Springfield trailed 119-113 entering the 200-yard relay, but its “A” squad touched out with a time of 1:41.34. NYU’s “A” squad finished with a time of 1:44.21. Coming through for SC was the quartet of Kelly Kopac, Jaclyn Van Waalwijk, Caroline Kosciusko, and Aimee Doe.
The first relay, the 400-yard medley, was also a key component in Springfield’s team victory. That quartet of Kallie Pottle, Moira Price, Kaitlin Reilly, and Kosciusko, finished with a time of 4:04.42. NYU finished with a time of 4:07.16.
Other winners for Springfield included Doe in the 100-yard free (55.64) and the 200-yard free (1:59.19), Reilly in the 50-free (25.61), Price in the 200 IM (2:14.22) and 100-yard breast (1:09.93), and Michelle Reggio in the 1-meter dive (269.46 points).
Tomorrow, Springfield will travel to MIT to face a pair of NEWMAC foes in MIT and Coast Guard at 1 pm.
