Men's Swimming and Diving Competes In Final Day of NCAA Championships

 

Minneapolis, Minn. – March 21, 2009 – Senior Greg Pearsall swam in the 100 freestyle in his final collegiate event on Saturday morning, while Brian Sobel finished eighth in the country in the the three-meter diving competition in the final day of the 2009 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

As a team the Pride finished tied for 26th out of 66 teams at the NCAA’s with a team score of 31.

Pearsall finished 17th in the country in the 100 freestyle race as he touched the wall in 45.37. The senior entered the race with the 17th fastest time in the country, a time of 45.27. His time on Saturday was not fast enough to qualify for the finals on Saturday evening.

Teammates Sobel and Matt Fitzgerald competed in the three-meter diving competition on Saturday afternoon, with Sobel advancing to the championship final. Sobel finished eighth in the country on the three-meter board with a final score of 461.05. Sobel finished fifth in the prelims with a score of 477.70 to advance to the finals, while Fitzgerald finished in 15th with a score of 408.90. Fitzgerald earned his second Honorable Mention All-American accolade of the week as he also finished 15th in the one-meter diving event.
