Amherst, Mass. - January 24, 2026 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team lost to Amherst in a dual meet on Friday night, 166-75.
The Pride started the day with a third place finish in the 200-medley relay as Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.), Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.), and Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) combined for a time of 1:35.06 just behind two Amherst squads.
Milligan posted a pair of third place finishes, finishing in 52.46 in the 100-fly and 53.43 in the 100-back. Nguyen also had a third place finish in the 50-free in 22.11 and Backlund came in third in the 100-free in 47.38. Kellen Maher (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Jason Kim (Shelton, Conn.) were close behind Backlund, coming in fourth and fifth respectively, in 50.15 and 51.09.
Nick Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) came in second place in the 500-free with a time of 4:53.91 while Greg Kratz (South Windsor, Conn.) finished fifth in 5:03.18. The 200-free relay team of Backlund, Nguyen, Quinney, and Zavier Villanueva (Wilbraham, Mass.) combined for a third place finish in 1:27.01.
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) swept both diving disciplines with a 3-meter score of 306.53 and a 1-meter score of 249.22. Springfield took the top three spots in the 1-meter as Tyler Khongkham (East Hampton, Conn.) came in second with a score of 236.40 and Andrew Testa (North Attleboro, Mass.) came in third with a score of 227.24.
Springfield will host Babson on Saturday, February 7 for its final meet before the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.
