Cambridge, Mass. – February 22, 2026 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team concluded competition at the 2026 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Sunday afternoon on the campus of MIT.
The host Engineers won the meet, while Springfield finished sixth overall in the field of seven teams with a total of 466.5 points.
Note that today's session was swam as all timed finals due to the impending blizzard in Massachusetts. No preliminary heats were contested.
Nick Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) had the best individual finish on the day for the Pride as he took sixth in the 1650-free with a time of 16:36.10, while
Greg Kratz (South Windsor, Conn.) also took tenth in the event with a time of 17:15.72.
Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.) earned an eighth place finish in the 100-free with a time of 45.90 and was followed in 16th by
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) in 46.54.
Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.)also took eighth place in the 200-fly recording a time of 1:54.66.
Charles Deaton (Bluffton, S.C.) recorded a 13th place finish in the 200-back in 1:58.54, while
Brandon Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) was the Pride's top finisher in the 200-breast in 2:15.30.
Springfield's "A" 400-free relay of Quinney, Backlund,
Zavier Villanueva (Wilbraham, Mass.) and
Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) clocked a time of 3:06.28 for sixth in the championship final, while the "B" relay of
Kellen Maher (Naugatuck, Conn.), Milligan,
Spencer Studley (Meriden, Conn.) and Deaton finished 16th overall in 3:13.14.
Springfield's divers will now turn their attention to the NCAA Regional Qualifying meet which is scheduled to start on Friday on the campus of Connecticut College in New London.
