Hartford, Conn. – April 8, 2009 – Despite two goals and two assists from Heather Dobson, the Springfield College women’s lacrosse team’s six-game winning streak came to an end after falling at No. 9 Trinity College, 15-6, on Wednesday evening.
Springfield now stands at 7-3 on the year, while the Bantams improve to 8-2.
Caitlin Irvine and Rachel Romanowsky combined for nine goals and two assists to lead Trinity to the victory. It marks the first time the Pride have been defeated in its last seven games.
Romanowsky scored 36 seconds into the game and three times in the first 5:36 to help the Bantams build a 6-0 lead midway through the first half. Leading, 10-3, at the break, Trinity scored the first five goals of the second half, including three by Irvine. Trinity dominated the draw, 17-6, including a team-high five draw controls by senior co-captain Kristina Scontras.
Irvine finished with five goals and Romanowsky had four goals, while each tallied an assist. Trinity senior attacker Jesse Schultz and sophomore midfielder Alisen Urquhart scored twice each and freshman goalie Stephanie Fisher made eight saves in the Bantam goal.
Senior captain attacker Dobson paced the Springfield offense with two goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Alexandra Bazzano scored twice, and junior Lauren McAulay made 13 stops in goal.
The Pride return to action when it takes on its second nationally-ranked opponent of the week in a key conference game on Saturday. The Pride will battle No. 12 Babson at 3:00 pm on Stagg Field.
