New London, Conn..– October 1, 2010 –Junior Sean Stadig scored his first career goal late in the first half and classmate Kevin Noll added a header in the closing seconds of the game as Coast Guard knocked off Springfield College, ranked ninth in New England, 2-0 in a New England WomenÂ's and MenÂ's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.

The Bears, which are 4-1-1 in their last six games, run their unbeaten streak to four improving to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. Springfield is now 7-3 overall, 1-2 in league play.

Stadig scored off a rebound with 7:08 left in the first half as he followed up a shot that came off of sophomore goalkeeper Chris WaltonÂ's hands.

Springfield carried the play in the first half, outshooting Coast Guard 9-2, but the Bears led 1-0 at the break.

The final 25 minutes of the game was played in a heavy, driving rain and the Bears added an insurance goal with just 18 seconds left in regulation when senior goalkeeper Chris Tarbell boomed a punt to Noll who headed it past Walton, who came out of the goal too far.

The Pride, which played a man down for most of the second half following a player getting his second yellow card, outshot Coast Guard 15-6.

Tarbell made eight saves to record his fourth shutout of the season and third in the last four games. The only goal Tarbell has allowed in the last four games was on a penalty kick.

Walton made a pair of saves for Springfield.

Springfield will host Mitchell College at Brock-Affleck Field on Sunday.
